Chapter I

          “I’m a virgen.”

          “I’m a virgin.”

          “I’m a virgin.”

That was Mary.  She was a reformed Prostitute and she called herself, The Virgen Mary.”

          “I’m a virgen.”

          “I’m a virgen.”

          “I’m a virgin.

“Yeah,” said her friend.  “In your elbow you’re a virgin.

Well, sometime later, Mary got married.  Her husband, Bill, never asked her about her past.  And Mary never asked him about his.  In fact, Mary never even asked him what he did for a living.

After their marriage, Mary moved in with Bill.  He had a beautiful house, up a long flight of stairs leading to an outdoor patio in front.   Everything was very peaceful.  Whatever his business was, he never brought it home.

Mary didn’t work.  Bill didn’t want her to.  And he thought they should have a family, maybe three or four kids.  And Bill wanted Mary to stay home with the kids.    “You can have your girlfriends,” he said.  “And hang with your girlfriends, but let’s also have a family.”

Mary was ecstatic.  And she got pregnant right away.  Their first child was a girl, Daffodil.  And they called her just that, Daffodil.  She had light skin, platinum blond wavy hair and blue eyes.

Bill made sure Mary had her girlfriends come over the house with their kids.  Or she went over their houses.  However, Bill, himself, was rarely home.  He slept until 10am and was then gone.  And Mary did not have to do any chores in the house.  There were always women to take care of the housework, laundry and meals.  Everything seemed perfect.

Mary was closest with her girlfriend, Lynn.  Lynn was the wife of Bill’s friend and they had a four-year-old little girl.  After a while, Lynn began to confide in Mary.  Lynn had a crush on one of Lynn’s husband’s friends.  Mary said nothing.  However, the crush didn’t stop.

One day when Lynn came over she had bruises on her arms and legs.  After that she never came over.  She just disappeared.  Nobody knew what happened to her.  Mary kept everything to herself and she didn’t dare say anything to Bill.  And to top it off, Mary was pregnant again.

Chapter 2

This time Mary had a boy.  They named him Victor.  And this time Mary chose to breastfeed the baby.  Bill didn’t care.  He didn’t understand why but he didn’t care either.

Since Mary liked hanging with her girlfriends and going places with them, she stopped nursing after three months and then Victor was bottle fed.

Mary had a baby nurse watching Daffodil and Victor.  And she spent most of her time with her girlfriend, Anna.  They went to jazz concerts and art museums.  Then they decided to take an art course in pastels together.

But the same thing started to happen with Anna that happened with Lynn.  Anna had eyes for other men.  And she wanted Mary to join her.  Mary, as an ex-Prostitute, knew how things would turn out.  Also, she didn’t want to be accused of anything, so she broke off all ties with Anna.  And it was just as well.  Nine days later Mary was watching the news on TV and found out that Anna’s body was found in a garbage pail.

That night Bill came home early while Mary was on the floor playing with the children.  Bill, also, got on the floor and played with them.  Their children were very young, one year old and three years old.

Bill then looked at Mary.  “You had two girlfriends who made a big mistake.  Be careful that doesn’t happen to you.”

“It never will,” said Mary.  “You are and will always be the only love of my life.”

“Yes.  And let’s keep it that way.”

Chapter 3

Then something happened.  Bill left at 10 in the morning and never returned.  Mary soon learned why.  His body was found in the front seat of a car, slouched over the wheel.  The police had been looking for him for a long time.  But who killed him?  Was it the police?  Nobody knew who killed him.

But then, what was going to happen to Mary and her two children?  Would she have any money to live on?

Then the phone rang.  Mary picked it up.

“You and your kids have 3 days to leave the house.  Take nothing with you except the kids and the clothes on your backs.”  Bam!  He hung up.

Just then someone walked in the house.  It was Bill’s friend, Samuel.

“I know you just got a phone call,” he said to Mary.  “I’m here to make you a proposition.  You and your kids can come live with me.”

“Oh, thank you, Samuel,” said Mary.

“But wait,” he said.  “There’s more to it.  You will be Angel, working for me as a courtesan at my hotel.  And your kids will be brought up the same way.  Take it or leave it. I’ll give you three minutes to make up your mind, starting now…
